Pocahontas Mine Exhibition & Museum

Add to plan Remove from plan

First opened to the public in 1882, the Pocahontas Mine Exhibition was the nation's first of its kind, inviting visitors to drive their cars through the mine at one point in its history. Nowadays, tourists simply walk the unique exhibit that tells the story of the earliest days of mining in the region. Once hailed as the fuel of choice for the U.S. Navy in World War I and II, Pocahontas Fuel Company played a significant role in the town's boom, drawing a diverse population of around 5,000. Join tour guides on a walk through the history of coal mining and the Town of Pocahontas, once considered “the World's Coal City.”

Mine Hours May-October are Thursday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 10am-4pm.
